Next day the tech called back to advise that after some thought he was 90% sure the 2 correct coloured CAN bus wires could be also be found in the larger of the two connectors feeds to the instrument cluster, no guarantee but was optomistic. Knowing how difficult it is to get access there, (requires removal of steering wheel etc), by this stage I was becoming very annoyed as I had spent quite a bit of time on this and got nowhere, I quizzed the tech on whether there is any other place more accessable to find those elusive wires, he told me he would do a bit more of research and get back to me. OK, follow CANM8 supplied instructions, tapped into the OBD port CAN bus wires, this did NOT work, contacted the manufacturer in the UK, a couple of emails and phone conversations later the local expert there said that because there are multiple CAN bus modules in the Touareg, the correct module I need to tap into (believe it is the 'Convenience" module) it's wiring is to be found BEHIND the steering shroud. Instructions call for the CANM8 installation to tap into the can wires at the OBD port, I thought the LHS ligh harness was an easier place to tap into rather than the OBD port (reason: outside cabin location V's inside cabin) however that does NOT work.Ĥ. ![]()
